Social Security Disability and Social Security Retirement

I often hear the following during a phone call. I have retired early and applied for early retirement social security benefits. I have since become disabled. Can I still apply for social security disability benefits?

The answer is you can apply for social security disability benefits if you can prove that you became disabled before your full retirement age. That is the age when you would have first become entitled to 100% of your retirement benefits. If you became disabled after your full retirement age then you can no longer apply for social security disability benefits.
